🏘️ The Housing Crisis Challenge
Sri Lanka faces a severe affordable housing crisis, with approximately 70% of households unable to afford even a basic 500-square-foot apartment, particularly in the Colombo Metropolitan Area where urbanization, high construction costs, and land scarcity have created a critical shortage.
Over 68,000 urban poor residents live in informal settlements with inadequate sanitation, limited access to clean water, and unsafe living conditions, hindering social mobility and economic development.
Against this backdrop, RFI’s low-cost housing development project emerges as a transformative initiative, delivering high-quality, affordable residential solutions that improve livelihoods, strengthen communities, and drive sustainable urban growth in Sri Lanka.
